KC Data Professionals Meetup

This is a group of Kansas City data professionals to come together, learn, network, and whatever the heck else we feel like honestly.

ANY level of interest or involvement in data is welcome, especially people that are just exploring career options.

MSDS Discord Server

A key element of MSDS is collaborative learning. We’d love to be able to interact with each of you personally. Right now, it’s totally possible. In the future it won’t be. That’s just the nature of the beast. But there are only two of us and, hopefully someday, there are millions of you so, in all likelihood, you’ll be able to get an answer to your question from a classmate who has already figured it out faster than you will from one of us.

Discord is a powerful messaging platform that supports both voice and text. It’s free to use and can be downloaded by going to the Discord site. Software is available as a webapp, a desktop app, or mobile app in all flavors of popular operating systems.

Once you’ve joined the server, you’ll see that there are two general areas. Text channels and class specific channels. We’re not sure what we’re going to do with voice channels yet. Probably something awesome but we need to master the basics first.

The class specific channels are where you go if you want to discuss class material. The text channels are for more general discussions surrounding those particular topics.

The Discord server isn't just for asking questions about class material. You can come and hang out with other like-minded people. Network. Find others interested in the same stuff you are. Show off your work, or just talk about what’s on your mind. The Discord server is the MSDS student lounge and everybody is welcome.

Don’t forget you can assign roles to yourself if you want to show what field you are studying/working in/wanting to work in so you can talk to like-minded individuals about the class or just the field you are geeked out on the most. The roles are the emojis in the rules channel.
